1. Certificate in Human Resources Management.

 

AIM

 The programme is designed to gain a practical understanding of Human Resource Management and identify best practices as they apply in both public and private sectors.  

OBJECTIVE 

The objective of the programme is to develop and empower young talents in the field of Human Resource Management. 

PROGRAMME CONTENT 

  •       Human Resource Management.

         At the completion of this programme participants will develop in - depth understanding of the Management of Human Resources and will have a sound knowledge of the selection, development and evaluation process necessary for effective Human Resource Management.  

  •  Recruitment and Selection.

At the end of the programme participants will be able to state the key pieces of legislation that impact on the recruitment and selection process. Will have developed necessary skills that facilitate Recruitment and Selection and will be able to complete the recruitment process to best practice standards. 

  •  Performance & Reward Management.

This programme deals the design and implementation of effective reward (compensation, performance management and work environment) systems. The course provides a general framework for how to analyze, build and manage these systems. The objective of the course is to understand how these systems affect individual motivation, team and company performance and to give students an effective and powerful framework to solve these about organizational issues. 

  • Training and Development.

The programme encompasses concepts and issues in employee development.  The students will be exposed to theories of learning and to understand learning principles and conditions. The course intent to develop skills in the areas of assessing training and development needs, designing and delivering training and development interventions and evaluating the effectiveness of training and development. 

  •  Employee Relations & Labour Law.

The programme is intended to introduce students to the main issues involved in the management of employee relations in the organizational environment. The course examines the nature of the parties to the employment contract, the contract itself and the procedural and legal aspects of labour legislation in the working environment. 

  •  Project Report.

Students undertake the study of a real-life problem in an organization with the objective of applying the principles and procedures they have studied during the course. Based on the study, they are required to submit a report.

The project report should not contain mere theoretical discussion of general issues. It is essential to base the project on systematic collection, analysis and interpretation of data leading to conclusions, which should be defended. Separate project guidelines are issued in the form of a booklet and students are advised to refer to them. 

Admission Requirements: 

Certificate in Diploma in Public Administration & Management with 60%, with or without work experience. 

Methodology:  

The programme will be conducted through lectures, industrial visits, discussions and case studies.

 Assessment:   

Students will be assessed through tests and a final examination at the end of the programme. A certificate of achievement will be awarded to students who pass all the courses. 

Duration

The programme will run for 3 months on a full time basis. The programme format is as follows:

§         1st month will be devoted on Theoretical aspect in HRM.

§         2nd month will be facilitated through Industrial visit and project report.

§         3rd month will be submission of reports seminars & workshops presided by HR Practioners. This programme is delivered by LIPAM. Experts from Governmental Department and trainers will be invited to identify and share best practices in HR in both private and public sectors.

2. Diploma in Human Resources Management & Labour Laws

 

AIM

The programme is designed to provide an understanding of Human Resource Management in the Lesotho Context. This program will be greatly appreciated by both prospective and HR practitioners who wish to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for effective people management.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this programme is to familiarize the students with the basic HR Management concepts. It deals with the evolution and development of HR Management thoughts, nature and descriptions of HR functions. 

PROGRAMME CONTENT

  • Management Principles & Techniques.

The programme aims at describing the nature of management, defining management and managers and characterizes their importance to organizations. Identifying and briefly explaining the 4 basic management functions in organizations; describing kinds of managers and their levels, their roles and skills they need to be successful; summarizing the scope of management in organizations including principles and techniques. 

  • Industrial Relations.

Industrial Relations in any organization is anchored in the hard-core reality of Employer-Employee Relations, which involves negotiating for compatibility in the inherently conflicting interests of two sides. Thus, the material basis for HR is provided by the Industrial Relations and hence every practitioner of HR needs a firm grasp of its dynamics. The course focuses on National & Generic Law with emphasis on soft laws & Labour legislation in Lesotho. 

  • Labour Economics.

The primary objectives of this programme are to familiarize the student with basic concepts in Labour Economics, and to provide an understanding of the varying structure, conduct and performance characteristics of labour markets and their relevance for human resource decisions. The students will have a greater understanding on labour supply, labour force, labour demand, wage and employment determination, the wage structure, labour unions and their economic impact, government intervention and the impact on the labour market, labour productivity, employment and unemployment, inflation and the labour market.

  • Human Resource Management.

At the end of this programme, participants will be able to understand the theory and practice of the specific functions and applications of Human Resource Administration and understand how to improve these specific functional management competencies within an organization. 

  • Organizational Behaviour.

This programme provides a framework in which students are exposed to a range of theories and experiences within the field of organizational behaviour which will allow them to further develop insights, attitudes and skills to a level consistent with the expectations for senior management. The course aims to provide an understanding of the behaviour of people at work and analyses behaviour at the individual, group and organizational levels. 

  • Research Methods.

The aim of the programme is to introduce the participants to the principles of research methods and action-research with the view of examining how such methods can be applied in investigating actual administrative and management problems. 

  • Administrative & Labour Laws.

The course aims to examine the nature and functions of administrative law & Labour laws as well as national and generic laws with emphasis on soft laws – (public & private.) Students will also be exposed to comparative analysis of labour legislation in Southern Africa.  

  • Project Report

Admission Requirements:

A Cambridge Overseas School Certificate (COSC) in at least third division with a pass in English; or

A Certificate in any Social Science programme from any recognized institution. 

Methodology:  

The programme will be conducted through lectures, industrial visits, discussions and case studies. 

Assessment:   

Students will be assessed through tests and a final examination at the end of the programme. A certificate of achievement will be awarded to students who pass all the courses. 

Duration:

The programme will run for 6 months on a part time basis. Class will be in the evenings for 3 hours (5.00 pm to 8.00 pm).

3. Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources  Management & Labour Laws

 

AIMS

The programme aims at providing a comprehensive study to a vast growing discipline of HRM and rendering principles of a professional work culture to its students.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the programme is to develop greater student insight into personal leadership styles, deeper appreciation of the complexities of personnel administration and enlarged awareness of the effectiveness of Human Resource Management.

COURSE CONTENT

  • Strategic Human Resource Management.

The programme is designed to teach participants the skills they need to seize new opportunities and adapt quickly to shifting conditions. Through intensive discussions with like-minded classmates and expert faculty members, participants learn how to implement organizational change in order to give their companies the advantage when competing in the global business arena. The students will be developed with the skills of aligning the HR Strategy with the organizational business needs. 

  •  Financial & Materials Management

The programme introduces the students with financial & materials regulations and practices. At the end of the course students will gain insight into the financial & materials management techniques, which are essential skills in business operations. 

  • Information & Communication Technology.

The programme is designed for end users in organizations that use computers for daily business operations. It provides in – depth skills and knowledge in basic and customized applications used for service delivery. 

  •  Organizational Behaviour & Development.

The programme aims to provide an understanding of the behaviour of people at work and analyses behaviour at the individual, group and organizational levels. It is through their behavior that operations take place, productivity is raised or lowered and the climate turns healthy or unhealthy. Hence it is necessary for a manager to be perceptive and sensitive to the behavioral phenomena. Organization Development is not a panacea for all the problems of organization. Students will develop the know how of developing a system / strategy for intelligently facing the requirements of a changing world. 

  •  Human Resource Development.

The course intent to develop skills in the areas of assessing training and development needs, designing and delivering training and development interventions and evaluating the effectiveness of training and development. The students will have an in -depth understanding of the role of the training specialist and the issues involved in establishing and managing a training function and to examine types of training and development interventions. 

  •  Performance & Reward Management.

  •  Labour laws.

Labour legislation is a response of the state to the problems and issues facing labour-management relations in industrial units. It is aimed at ensuring peace and harmony between the parties and enabling effective resolution of conflicts and disputes arising in the course of employment and work performance. Labour legislation lays down the boundaries within which the management of HR takes place and it also signifies the general orientation of Government policy towards labour. 

  •  Employee Relations.

The programme is intended to introduce students to the main issues involved in the management of employee relations in the organizational environment. The course examines the nature of the parties to the employment contract, the contract itself and the procedural and legal aspects of labour legislation in the working environment. 

  •  Disciplinary & Dispute Handling Procedures. 

At the end of the programme participants will be have an in-depth understanding  of disciplinary action and their pitfalls, What are the common causes of a grievance, employee's legal rights and alternative ways of pursuing a grievance and legal framework governing disciplinary or grievance handling. They will be equipped to interpret employer's existing procedures in a practical way.  

  • Case studies in Human Resource Management & Employee Relations.

The programme focuses on developing mechanisms used in business as a strategy and control tool for the purpose of gaining a competitive advantage in the market. The student will acquire a working knowledge of the principals of Case study in HRM. The course will include both an emphasis on the key principles of Resource Development as well as application of the principles to a range of situations. The course emphasizes problem identification, system modification, problem solving, and continuous process improvement of HR issues.  

  •  Human Resource Information System.

The programme aims to implement effective strategies to make the best use of their Human Resources (HR), as well as comply with mandatory reporting requirements in an efficient and timely manner. HRIS facilitates informed decision-making. The objective of HRIS is to develop and improve the collection, maintenance and reporting of HR information. Such information provides organizations with the opportunity to improve Human Resource Management (HRM) practices and, consequently, organizational performance. 

  • Project Management.

The programme aims to equip participants with the capability of planning and appraising a project cost effectively, to assist them in being able to weed out or modify bad projects or the so called loser projects, so that they can develop wining projects proposals. 

  • Project Report

Students undertake the study of a real-life problem in an organization with the objective of applying the principles and procedures they have studied during the course. Based on the study, they are required to submit a report.

Admission Requirements:

 A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution; or a Diploma in Human Resource management and Labour Laws 

Methodology:  

The programme will be conducted through lectures, industrial visits, discussions and case studies.

Students will be assessed through tests and a final examination at the end of the programme. A certificate of achievement will be awarded to students who pass all the courses. 

Duration:

The programme will run for 1 Year on a part time basis. Class will be in the evenings for 3 hours (5.00 pm to 8.00 pm).
